Would you like to Help Us Out and Receive the Poop Scoop by Email?
We would gladly send out the Quarterly Newsletter
to you via email or by regular mail, or simply by reading it on
our website. Please
take a minute and let us know which format you would prefer to
read. We are always looking for ways to reduce our administrative
costs and email would be a great way to do so. We could then spend
more money on animals that need to be spayed or neutered. Please
let us know your preference by sending a note to our Secretary,
Tana Thomas, at the following email address or by calling her at:

CHARTER MEMBER DIES It is with sadness but also with loving memories we remember Ted
Davis, who died on September 24, 2006
Ted was the father of Sally and Jo Bigley , our past Presidents.
He was one of our first charter members and
was such a help in giving the utmost support in the early days
of Metroport Humane Society. He loved his friends and the animals
so much and was so generous to all. He will be greatly missed by
all who knew him.
Volunteers Needed!
If you have any interest in doing volunteer work with a humane
society, we could use you. Even if it’s for just a few hours
a week or month or just during the summer months, your help would
be appreciated.
Telephone Volunteers: We have
an urgent need of people to answer the phone (from your own home),
during our Help Line hours of 9
AM - Noon or 2:00 PM
- 4:30 PM and we’d love to add a Saturday morning shift. You will be
trained.
Foster Coordinator: We are in need of a coordinator
for the foster program. Experience preferred.
Petco Cat Condos:
We need volunteers for the Petco's at Grapevine and Bedford.
We have cat condos at both of these locations and we need volunteers
for
the morning and afternoon of each day of the week at both locations. This
would
include cleaning the cages, socializing with the cats and kittens, and
checking
to see if they were sick or exhibiting questionable behavior and would
take about an hour once a week.
Humane Education Presenter: We also need someone to facilitate Humane Education
Presentations at area schools. For more information, please contact us
at (817) 491-9499

Message from the President - Bill Waltrip
Have you ever spent a few moments to consider our Mission Statement? "The
mission of Metroport Humane Society is to prevent the birth of unwanted animals
and to improve the lives of those already born." What does it mean to
prevent the birth of unwanted animals? It means that for every cat or dog we
help spay or neuter fewer cats and dogs end up in public shelters where the
kill rate ranges from 60% to 80%. The chilling fact is that for the vast majority
of animals picked up on the street it's a one way ticket because fewer than
20% are adopted, reclaimed or rescued.
Metroport fulfills its mission to prevent the birth of unwanted animals by
sponsoring low cost spay/neuter clinics, contributing to the Spay Neuter Your
Pet (S.N.Y.P.) program with participating veterinarians and requiring that
all animals placed for adoption by our organization be spayed or neutered.
We also offer a feral cat program that helps reduce the size of feral cat colonies
by loaning traps to anyone who will agree to trap, neuter and then release
feral cats.
Our committed volunteers work hard everyday to fulfill our mission to improve
the lives of those already born by working telephone shifts, updating lost
and found web sites, cleaning the Kitty Kondos at two local Petcos or fostering
animals is their homes prior to adoption. If you would like to aid our mission
by giving time to our organization, please call 817.491.9499.
